E has cool tech, no doubt about it, but I think gnome is a more

E is the perfect match to my needs.. I only have a pretty desktop image, mozilla seamonkey on a separate desktop, and about one gazillion Eterms open at various times. window manipulation is wonderful (alt-dragging windows around by any area is real nice)

KDE

ick, just ick :P

gnome

I don't like gnome for one reason, really.. I have been totally unable to get it to run in a reasonable fashion. ever.

the first time I tried, it would not compile on trustix.
nowadays, it does compile, and there are packages in contrib, but the packages are poorly built (at least at one time, one needed to install a ton of -devel packages to get anything running) and I had major issues starting the desktop (just what command to use?)

then, when I finally got it started up, it decided to use my enlightenment for window management and I struggled for a good while to get the "default" gnome wm (is it metacity? .. well, it turned out I needed to install that too)

gnome may be nicely working on a distro that has it set up and ready to go from the login manager..

but then we have another little thing about me ... I can only use Trustix .. I have tried other distros, and they all have stupid faults that drive me nuts (but I will spare you the details :P)

and one I just took now, showing off the new shelf that just got checked in by accident :)

.. boy, that became quite a rant :P
