ok, that fixed the Apache problem.
On to the next 2 problems :
1. If I use the webadmin scripts, I get the list of servers, then I
click administrate on an active server. When I click any of the links on
the left, I get :
Internal Error :
Communications Time Out. 
The hosting server this virtual server is on may not be running, or 
you have tried to make a connection to an invalid server.  

If the hosting server is down, a Support Engineer has been paged.




2. If I surf to the virtual server, I get :
The requested URL / was not found on this server.
instead of getting the page :
If you can see this page then it looks like your webserver is running.
