You did not include most important information: which Lisp do you
use to compile FriCAS?  AFAICS relevant code in FriCAS 1.3.5 and
1.3.6 is the same.  But important part is done by Lisp and if
Lisp used to compile FriCAS does not support Unicode, then
what you see is expected.
