I don't understand this question.  I can't tell if you want a
program to run your modem or to connect to a machine over a
network.  Because for the modem, Minicom does in fact do screen
capture and file transfers via x/y/z-modem etc.  Wanting to do
ssh or telnet doesn't realy make much sense to me in this
context.

I assume you must be expressing the desire for a graphical
telnet/ssh client (like Putty is for Windows) with sz/rz
autorecognition a la Minicom.  It does seem a strange fit for a
Linux system, so I think you're going to have a hard time finding
it.  After all, we already have excellent terminals, a plethera
of file tranfer protocols, and telnet/ssh options.  Too much
abundance for someone to write a catch-all program.
