Which part of "psychopaths come in varying degrees, and there's enough of the
mild ones to fill every prison in the US" did you fail to understand?

There are very few mental disorders that are a hard binary "yes/no" - almost
all of them come in a spectrum. Mental retardation comes in various severities.
Some are unable to learn to even crawl/move, some never manage to learn to
dress themselves, and some manage to lead fairly normal lives even if it always
takes them 3 times longer to figure something out. Autism comes in a wide
spectrum from "socially awkward geek" to "totally nonverbal". Depression,
ADHD, and schizophrenia come in a wide range of severity as well.

As do sociopaths. And I'll posit that *especially* in the "huge criminal
enterprise" end of it, you need to be at least a good ways down the sociopath
spectrum to consider the line of work. Yes, there's a lot of small fry
spammers in developing countries that are doing it because they need to eat,
and I'm sure a few spammers in the US *really* only did it to pay for their
kid's kidney transplant. But when you get to RBN-class operations, it's
sociopaths all the way down.
