Somehow I'm sure it will work out in the long run, but I betcha' that
initial release is gonna be, well, like mixing CF 4.5 with NT Service Pack
6, and shaking it vigorously.

"We have had some calls about CFINCLUDE no longer working..."
"There have been isolated instances of servers going BSOD when a CFIF is
called..."

I bet we'll see a few gotcha's like this at first. Maybe worse, who knows,
huh? But by the time CF 8 rolls around, all that stuff will be ironed out,
heh heh.

Now from a revenue stream prospective, look at all the $$ Allaire is gonna
make; selling new versions and what-not, while we all run out and spend in
the hopes of staying compatible, and chasing out persistent bugs.

Seriously, I do think Allaire is tapping into the Microsoft model of
software/OS releases. First rule, do the Chinese Finger Trap "You can't go
back" technique; so you are permanently committed. Next, make sure the
OS/app du jour is stable enuff to work, but buggy enuff to make the user
pant for the next 'good' version. Keep service packs rolling out to whet the
appeitite and fix any really bad stuff.

And I'm not saying that this model is necessarily a bad thing, either. After
all, folks at Allaire gotta eat, too! To me, I'd say that things are looking
up for Allaire, and now might be a time to buy some of that stock up while
its undervalued... Who knows?
