You could outsource the problem and use the AtomZ service to index the site.
I used Atomz with my last company and was very happy with it. For small
sites, its free, and if you exceed the number of pages, upgrading to the
premium service is extremely reasonable. They also send you search reports
by email. Sign up today, and your site can have searches tonite :)
I use it on my personal homepage as an example: http://www.gizmola.com
They spider and index your site and do a reasonable job via textual content,
but to get the best results, you should have the standard page titles and
metatags used by most search engines. They also support a custom meta tag
for relevancy that will help you pop certain pages out to the top of a
search. I first became aware of Atomz via OReilly's website which uses them
as does webmonkey. O'Reilly is an interesting case, as they wrote a custom
wrapper around it. I believe that Atomz now offers a choice of support for
either html or xml, but i haven't done anything with the xml version.
