To try and quash this misplaced thread for good -- My offer couldn't have been TOO horrendous, given I had over 20 people respond, willing to help us out. Their samples were ALL very good, and very original. The intentions of those that responded to my request were honorable -- all were willing to help our non-profit client at a very low cost "out of the goodness of their hearts". I'd like to think I can recognize the difference between "cookie-cutter templates" and honest, hard-working, skilled individuals with creative and original ideas. They saved me a great deal of time -- I didn't have to spend time creating an RFP and waiting for responses from eLance, I didn't have to haggle with rates, and I didn't have to take any more time out of our busy business schedule than the time needed to look at the sample work of those who responded, and choose the one that was an appropriate match for our client. I got everything I needed, and the designer was able to make a quick $150 and feel good for doing it, too. And, my $150 stayed in the U.S., and went to a human being and not some silly software -- which makes ME feel good, too. The individual we chose was qualified, and has delivered well ahead of schedule and completely according to our specifications. I even asked for a slight format change in the files he has provided, and there was no complaint from him about that. A check was issued promptly after we received the first template. I have expressed on several occassions my complete appreciation and satisfaction for what he has been willing to do for us. I would definitely commission him in the future, certainly at more respectable rates, because I know I can trust him, because he is prompt and detailed in his work, and because I ALREADY know it's not 100% "about the money" for him. On the other hand, everyone so far that has responded negatively to this now two-week-old request will NOT have the opportunity to work for us, at ANY rate. Aside from posting on the wrong list, I wouldn't retract my offer or change its presentation in any way whatsoever. I've learned a great deal from this little soap opera... about how much some things are worth, and what respectable people are willing to do for one another, and a great deal about about some of the people who read my message and responded as they have. If you wish to respond to this post, please do so in person; it has already been requested that this thread be removed or killed because I DID post it to the "wrong" list. I too would like to see it die at this point. Go have a beer, and let us not speak of this again.

Mmmmm beer. -----Original Message----- From: Marc Funaro [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, April 09, 2002 4:01 PM To: Fusebox List (E-mail) Subject: Design Needed Greetings All: We have recently acquired a client that desires a global cosmetic change to their website, in addition to a conversion to ColdFusion/Fusebox 3. We have been given permission to spend $150 to acquire 3 design templates from a qualified graphic artist. One of these design templates will be chosen as the new overall design of the site. The right person for the job will have the following qualities: 1. Willing to provide the three design templates in an Adobe application (preferably Photoshop) format 2. Willing to produce three fully useable basic designs for the price indicated ($150) (i.e. Once provided to us, we have everything we need to develop and deploy additional navigation, etc., with no further contact with the designer required) 3. Willing to provide live examples of prior work, for a variety of different websites 4. Able to take a current website, and given the existing information, provide an original, creative new look that can be implemented easily as a fusebox 3 design template I know the price is fairly low, but the design will remain simple. An artist skilled in Photoshop will probably not have a problem "kicking this out" fairly quickly. The client is non-profit with a tight budget... and they are doing wonderful and important work (which may make you feel warm and fuzzy for donating a little time?). We do not need Flash, heavy animation, or extensive javascripts/rollovers. We need a "nice new look" for a relatively small site. This client is THE authority in their field, and this is basically the "official" website for the topic they cover. In addition to the money earned, we are willing to provide a link from the completed website to a web location of your choice, to give you appropriate credit for your work. Also, there is no giant rush for this request... we'd like the three samples in about 3 or 4 weeks, which means you may be able to fit this work in between other jobs. If you are somehow insulted by this request (either because it's been posted to this list, or because of the low payout, or any of the other reasons that inevitably get people's panties into a bunch), please do us all a favor and just ignore it or delete it, instead of voicing some soapboxy diatribe online. I am already aware of what I am asking here, and don't need to be reminded that it may be unreasonable for a certain lot. However, if you are interested in this request and the payout it offers, please respond off-list, with links to your live examples. We will choose the designer from that point, and contact you with all the information you need.
