Thanks Lauren. I did try the entity listed in the Tags Guide at first and
it did not work. I just tried again and received the same result. I made
sure that I had "return strings as tagged text" marked.

I set my rule up as follows:

If(Field("Name") == "Jose LastName")
        return "JOS" + 'É' + " " + "LastName";
else
return Rule("NameAllCaps");

I confirmed that the entry in my datafile lists "Jose" without the accent
before I entered it into the rule.

My rule gets validated and I am able to save it but when I preview I just
get an uppercase "E" with no accent mark....

Thanks.

Lisa,

  FusionPro most definitly supports upper-case letters with accents. There
is a file called entity.mac.def that was installed on your computer and in
it is a list of entities. The entries in the far-left column are what you
want to put in your rule to return the accented character. Also in your
rule, you'll need to have the 'return strings as tagged text' checkbox
turned on.

  If you need more help with entities, there is a whole section on them in
the Tags Reference Guide.

Good luck.

Thanks Chris. I tried this but unfortunately I'm going the other way -
UpperCase - not lowercase. Even when I change this in this rule it's giving
me the "E" without the accent mark.

I guess Desktop just doesn't like UpperCase accents....

I'm going to keep trying these suggestions....It's just killing me that I'm
doing all this work for one record out of the 500 I'm composing.

Lisa,

This is what I use.

switch (Field("NAME").toLowerCase())
{

        case "Angela RenÈe Conley".toLowerCase():
                return "Angela Ren" + Chr (233) + "e Conley";

        case "Ana Priscila ThomÈ-Hamilton".toLowerCase():
                return "Ana Priscila Thom" +  Chr (233) + "-Hamiltonn";

        case "Bethany Lee SolÈr".toLowerCase():
                return "Bethany Lee Sol" +  Chr (233) + "r";

        default:
                return Field("NAME");
}

Not sure if this is the best way, but it works for me.

Hope this helps
