Dang, I can't find my copy of Postman's _Amusing Ourselves to Death_,
so I can't offer any pungently apropos quotes.

But when you recommend a video, could we have a text summary, precis
or the like, please? I'll omit the rant about how the TV meme has
begun to take over and supersede (poison?) text-based lobes of
the internet and just direct y'all to Postman's book.

I may possibly be the only subscriber to FW who doesn't have a
broadband connection. Or not. But I don't do internet video. As far
as that goes, I would rather have a transcript than a video in most
cases anyhow, even if video were doable.

And to think, twenty years ago I was telling all my friends about how
nifty email and ftp were and they all said, "Jeez, Spencer, you're
just too geeky for words. I hate computers. Computers are for nerds
and biz weenies. Chill out, gimme a break and use the phone if you
want to talk to me."

Now those same friends are saying, "What?! You don't use Facebook?
You don't twitter? You don't have stuff on U-Tube? You don't do
Netflix? Your browser doesn't grok javascript or flash? You didn't
like the 50 meg video of my grandkids I sent you in email? Why is
your web site so old-fashioned looking? You don't have a high-speed
net connection? You use *WHAT* operating system? Ghod, what a
Luddite. How can you be alive at all?"

Ho hum.

- Cranky old fart,
