Have a look at medical research then. A vast amount of it (if not
most) is initiated by private foundations. You should be lucky to be American.

That only works for blacksmiths and when the rod is red-hot. For ordinary
mortals and a cold iron rod, you gots to bend it *further* back in order
for it to be straight.
