Aha! An explanation at last!  When I was in grad school my mentor was a
rather formidable, well-known Canadian economist.  When reviewing drafts of
my thesis, he would look me in the eye and tell me "Weick, you'll never be
an economist.  Forget it, you're nothing but a journalist."  I tried very
hard, but I could never seem to satisfy him or figure out what he meant.  I
think I now know.  He relied on economics, and I just wrote about it.
