The Road to Serfdom was a high point for Hayek, but as he got older he moved more toward the planned economy - noticeably so.

When I had my minor confrontation with him over, of all things, the least exertion principle, we were surrounded by Austrian and other free market economists.

None of them were particularly happy with the general opinions he was expressing (quite apart from our argument). Some of them questioned him pretty hard and in unforgiving tones.)

I am in no way suggesting he had become a socialist, but he certainly looked more warmly in the direction of a planned economy.
