I just updated my wife's Acer, which also has a Broadcom b/g (BCM4318) chipset, and under Ubuntu Edgy Eft the wireless card works with the native BCM43xx driver. With Dapper, I had to use NDISwrappers. So maybe we just need to use an Edgy liveCD...
