It's certainly possible to show an attractive GUI in Linux without making it
look like OSX, but whatever floats you boat.

If you've got a 3-d accelerating video card, you should try out Beryl sometime
- it's got a theme that works very well as an OSX-like skin, as well as all the
compositing effects you'd be used to seeing in OSX, like the Expose feature and
the minimizing/maximizing animation. It rocks far beyond what OSX rocks in the
compositing effects department.

Of course, you need a video card. nVidia, ATI, and some onboard Intel chips all
work.

Oh, and it's not what we call "stable" software, it's "experimental". That's
why it's not on by default in Ubuntu (though they're claiming, again, that it
might be turned on by default in the October release, Gutsy Gibbon), but it's
particularly easy to install in Feisty I've heard.

Hope this finds you all doing well!

I've been working my way through some tutorials on making gnome look
like OSX. I know that there are a lot of people against that (that's why
I haven't aske for any help getting a dock going) But I basically wanted
to do it to prove to all my friends who are saying they want to go to a
mac, that Linux is a viable option for someone who wants a stable OS
with an attractive GUI. And if you're going to have to learn a new OS,
why not learn one that doesn't require you to drop $2G on new hardware.

Anyway I'm really enjoying my Ubuntu Linux experience. The only thing
I'm wondering about is I'm really going to miss Illustrator and
Photoshop. I've read some tut's on getting them to work with wine. Any
thoughts about wine (the software that is)?
