Hi Thomas, I think that, to get the card to work with the Airport drivers, you need to update to at least 10.4.3 or so. Try to run Software Update using an ethernet connection, or use another computer to download the updates and burn them to a CD.
Again, I might be mistaken, but I know for a fact that was the case with Panther, and trying it won't hurt.
