Hi

I picked up the problematic iBook G3 today. It is a 500Mhz, 384MB RAM, 10GB
HD and CDRW.

It was described as having screen problems and heat problems.

Firstly, I have noticed the screen dull slightly for a few seconds and then
come back full again, but nothing that would get annoying.

Secondly, the heat is coming from the left hand side of the trackpad which
I fear is where the graphics chip is on the logic board. It does indeed get
very warm.

Any ideas? Is it likely the graphics chip is going to fail. I have had a
lot of these in for repair and a failing graphics chip usually makes the
screen behave funny (fuzzy lines, black outs, freezing).

Thirdly, the battery is shot. It charges to full in 10 minutes and will run
the machine for seconds before going to sleep.

Simon
