I would hazard the 5300 is much worse (although admittedly the iBook teardown is a pain in the ass). Whatever problems I have encountered with the iBooks are generally only 2-3 specific failure modes. I think the BGA failure is avoidable if people would stop picking the unit up by one corner. So far, none of the boards I have had reflowed have failed.
