However, I recently had to remove some sharpie markings from a monitor case. Someone wrote the root user password on the front!!?? I started with Goo Gone, the basic stuff on a cotton ball and that took a lot of the marking off. Followed that with some alcohol prep swabs and that got the rest. At least, it looks to be gone... The monitor is an SGI with the speckled "Granite" case. If any of the black marks remain, they blend right in with the pattern.
