I like my G4 AL 15" 'book--It's my main Mac. A few system glitches every so often, but they're rare. And yes, battery life sucks. One of the best purchases I ever made to go with this machine, a Bookendz docking unit (http://www.bookendzdocks.com/) so when I'm at home, everything plugs in and is available to use immediately.
