Hello Dianne, There's nothing crazy in your ideas! I'll tell you something about a Pismo: One of my neighbours (he is 85 and doesn't need "that modern computing" of the kids) still has a Pismo/500 MHz with a 20 GB HD, 1 GB RAM and the original AirPort card. He has a bunch of old OS 9 stuff (from his former Mac, a PM 9600/350) and still want to use that. For internet (he has ADSL) he prefers OS X. He has a FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 modem/router. On his int. HD (unpartioned!) we installed 9.2.2 and 10.4.11. So he can boot in 10.4.11 (and event. use Classic) or in 9.2.2. Besides the usual apps., coming with the OS's, he is mainly using PS 7, GraphicConverter, AppleWorks 6 and NeoOffice. He is moving the Pismo from his desk (using ethernet = faster) to his bedroom, front-balcony or back-garden-balcony (using wireless) and his USB-VOIP-phone over XMeeting. On his desktable he has a HP-AIO-photoprinter/scanner/fax connected via USB to the router, 2 ext. FW HD's, 80 GB (for files) and 120 GB (for backup using SD), a LaCie FW CD/DVD DL/LS reader/burner and a powered USB-Hub to connect his cardreader, 2nd VOIP-phone etc. Besides that, he has a phone directly connected to the FRITZ!Box which he can use with VOIP when the Pismo is powered off. And even to his favourite bar, 150 m from here! Much more cheaper in use as a cellphone!! Sorry for the long story but I only want to give you an example of the usefulness of an old Pismo.
