Thanks. I did try that first, to no avail. It's more serious.
I also tried to reset the PMU. No lasting results.
Presently, I'm considering heating issues. The bottom does heat up.  
The fans do switch on normally.
I'm wondering whether the culprit is the MoBo. I hate the thought.
