This is my first G3 PowerBook!

I'm the proud second owner of a 266 MHz PowerBook G3 Series II machine
- complete with two batteries (one completely dead - Battery Reset 2.0
sees it, resets it, but it won't charge), a floppy drive, and a 20x CD-
ROM module. It has Mac OS 9.1 installed, 64 MB of RAM, a 2 GB hard
drive, and the infamous yo-yo/UFO power adapter.

I'm conditioning the good battery, which appears to have never been
used, and got 128 minutes the first time, 137 the second with Battery
Amnesia. I could live with 2+ hours, but would prefer a lot more.

I've been Googling in hopes of finding instructions for rebuilding the
battery, but I've only found tutorials for the Pismo/Lombard battery.
I know of one company that rebuilds for $85, and OWC sells a brand new
battery for $100, but I'm hesitant to invest that much in a battery
for such an old 'Book. Can anyone help me with the rebuild?

Based on a tip in yesterday's Miscellaneous Ramblings Mailbag <http://
lowendmac.com/misc/09mr/mb0513.html#4> I've ordered an original
AirPort Hub from eBay for $15 shipped. The person who sent in the tip
says the WiFi card in the hub is a standard PC Card and will work with
Apple's AirPort drivers. Cool! I'll be sure to post about it when I
confirm this.

I'd like to boost RAM on this machine and put in a larger, faster hard
drive - 5400 rpm, 8 MB cache would be nice, and it doesn't have to be
bigger than 10 GB. Once it's upgraded, I'll look into getting OS X
installed - leaning toward 10.3, although I've heard it can handle
Tiger nicely with 512 MB. <http://lowendmac.com/myturn/0805my/deuel-
wallstreet.html>

If anyone has some WallStreet/PDQ RAM (128 MB or 512 MB modules) or a
5400 rpm hard drive (8 GB or larger), please contact me directly.

Thanks!
