Are you saying that Apple DID release a recharging station that  
DOESN'T use the charging contacts, but DOES use the normal recharging  
transformers and power plugs?

I was amazed the recharging contacts were there, I own three and was  
totally oblivious to these, despite having totally disassembled all  
three. I was humbled once on this thread already, and would love to  
learn about any charging system that uses these hidden recharging  
points.
