Does your machine have a power management unit? The Intel macs have an  
SMC, your machine might be a PMU but I don’t have a procedure for that.

Best of luck but keep in mind that your machine is quite dated and the  
battery may just be near its’ end of life, unless it’s a new battery  
in which case your computer’s power management unit may need to be  
reset. Also consider, if you believe the battery is in good shape, to  
calibrate the battery but you might have to search on how to do that  
for your battery.

Nowadays, calibrating involves letting the machine run on battery  
until it goes flat and the machine shuts down and then allowing the  
battery to fully charge. Again, I am not sure on how this is done for  
your battery but I hope this helps you.
