Oops,
Ok, I wanted to install tiger on my pre-firewire clamshell (tangerine
300 mhz with 9.2.1 currently installed) So I got XpostFacto 4,
and .dmg's of the install CDs, (I have the DVD, and could not find
real copies of the CDs) On my GigE G4 I used disk utility to convert
the files to .cdr, and burned the disks. Then, I inserted Disc 1 into
the iBook, and started xpf. It recognized the disk, but the install
button was grayed out.

After a few restarts, and tries, I decided to try something (feel
free to read that as 'I did something stupid, and now want your help
getting out of it') I restarted holding down the "C" key... So the
install CD starts up just fine, and gives me the error 'OS can't be
installed on this system' or something very similar. It gave me the
option to restart, or choose a startup disk. So i chose the 9.2.1
disk on the HDD, and restarted. It restarted back from the install
disk in 10.4. So I went through the process again, and ejected the CD
at startup this time. It gave me the Classic happy mac folder icon
flashing back and forth with the ? folder icon.

So I tried doing a restart while holding the "option" key, I did not
get any choices, I then tried the"D" key. No Joy. I tried
"apple"-"option", nothing.....

So, without being able to access any OS, how do you re-bless a system
folder? Can I do a network boot from the GigE? Is there something
more nefarious that I have caused here?

Peter

P.S. why didn't X.P.F. allow the install to begin with?
