...It appears to be in a sort of zombified state... A while ago, my iBook (dual USB, 500MHz) was knocked off of a low shelf and fell about 10 inches onto a carpeted floor, landing, IIRC, on the lower-right corner. the 'Book was latched and sleeping at the time.
The symptoms are: - The 'Book will not wake up. - The hard drive seems to try to spin up, then spins down again, without waking the display. - The "spin up, spin down" cycle happens WHETHER THE LID IS OPEN OR CLOSED. - Neither pressing nor holding down the power button has any effect. None of the usual reset key-combinations has any effect. - Unplugging the 'book and removing the battery then plugging back in has no effect. Once it decides that there is power again, the HD spin cycle simply starts again. I'm assuming that if it was just a case of my HD getting hosed that powering down and starting up would give me the startup chime and show the "missing system" icon. If my logic board was hosed, I'm assuming that I wouldn't get the the HD "spin cycle" -- it would just be dead. HD failure? Main board failure? Lid Latch? Power distribution? Does anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? Because I'm stumped!
