No, the lid switch magnet is not under the keyboard, the magnet you are referring to is simply there to keep the keyboard in place. The lid switch magnet is inside the case on the far right edge right below the keyboard. However, the magnetic reed switch in the display bezel could have been damaged and is making the iBook think it's closed.
