I've got an original Tangerine Clamshell running Tiger with no
problems, fast HD, and maxed out RAM (512 meg + 64 megs). So far, so
good. However, I've been trying to add a combo drive from a older
model iBook or Powerbook. This is a tray loader, so I know it is not
too advanced. The CD part seems to function fine (although I haven't
tried to burn a CD yet. . .), and when I pop a DVD in, it recognizes
it and puts the proper name on it. It won't play the DVD, though. I
get an error message stating that the "system is incompatible" - error
code 70013. Now I know these older Clamshells never shipped with a
DVD-ROM or combo drives, but considering Macs have been playing DVD's
since OS 8.6 (?), plus I've heard of people getting this to work, I
was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a work around for this. I've
tried VLC and Patchburn, but had no better results. With 4 megs of
video AGP RAM, it should be able to handle some minor DVD playing.
I'd appreciate any light you might be able to shed on this matter.
Thanking you in advance. . .
