Kris was right. I needed the older version of VLC to make it "work" (. . . and, I use the term loosely). I downloaded version 0.86i and it actually "played," which is more than I can say for anything else I've tried. Your were also right about the quality of the play. It was really herky-jerkey. Not worth watching. However, it does seem to read DVD's just fine, so maybe this really is an upgrade. Right now I'm importing a CD into the iTunes music library, and it is slower than Christmas (I've never seen anything import music at speeds slower than real time!). We'll see if it can burn a CD tomorrow. This has been quite an education and I love playing with these old dinosaurs. Thanks for everyone's input!

I checked the system profiler and it states that there are no OS 9 drivers installed for this model CD-ROM (Sony CD-RW CRX800E - Revision 1.3r) On Mar 3, 1:11 pm, Bruce Johnson <[email protected]> wrote: > On Mar 3, 2010, at 10:24 AM, Da'Birdman wrote: > > > This makes some sense, Shaun.
