Well since I had one for years also, along with a 12" iBook, the iBook had twice the WIFI range the 12" AlBook did. Also my 15" AlBook didn't have the range the 12" iBook did either, which is why I made that comment.
My Pisom, my White MacBook and my MacBook Pro all have great WIFI range, even better than the 12" iBook, but the 12" AlBook was a real dog when it came to WIFI reception.
