I have a iBook G3 500 that I just put a new hard drive and RAM plus 10.4.11 on and I want to migrate the OSX files and programs from the old drive.

When I start Migration Assistant the drive I want to use doesn't show in the selection of drives. However it shows on the desktop along with 4 other bootable partitions on the Firewire external. I can boot the old drive but I can't seem to migrate from it??

Make sure you're logged into an admin account.
Disable permissions on the old drive.

If all you're looking to migrate is user stuff, not apps and such, then you could use CCC or just type in a few ditto commands.
