Dear All,

I have an original Blueberry clamshell G£ i-book with 256mb of Ram &
it's original 3.2gb hard disk (Sounds so ancient, but beloved typing
this)
Can you suggest any software around that I may be able to run on it,
or upgrade with-it's running OS 8.6 and has Office 97 for Mac?
Also, what would be the easiest way for me to get it on-line as well?
I haven't used it much over the last few years due to a much faster XP
machine at home & work

Kind Regards to you all & many thanks in anticipation
Flossie
I own a number of Clamshells and can testify that they do perform surprisingly
well with Tiger. First, as was noted earlier, replace the RAM DIMM with a 512
meg stick (OWC has them for about $25 IIRC). Secondly, you'll want to replace
that ancient, slow and tiny hard drive with something more capable. You can
pick up a 5400 rpm IDE laptop drive at many places. This will produce a
noticeable bump in speed versus the 4200 rpm that you currently have. If
you're willing to search around on the web, you can still find some 7200 rpm
IDE laptop drives around. This will really speed things up. You probably
don't really need a big HD in the Clamshell. A 40 - 80 gig drive will run you
around $60 - $80 (I just saw a new 120 gig for $66 online). The way I've
gotten around XPostFacto is to take the new drive and pop it in a firewire
external enclosure and load Tiger onto it from an "approved" G3 - G5 with
firewire. You can then pop the new hard drive into the Clamshell, replacing
the old tortoise HD in there now. I lot of people are afraid to open up a
Clamshell, but they're not that hard to work with. They are tedious, however.
You can get good how-to info on the interwebs at ifixit.com. It's worthwhile!
Don't hesitate to contact me off-list if you have any questions. Good luck!
