OS9 is what you crave Simon? Well, the 90s called and they want their
operating system back!
On a more serious note, once you step into MacOS Classic you'll find
plenty of neat apps and games that still deliever these days. I was
quite surprised to see forensics running MacOS 9.x and some special
apps in their labs. Microsoft Office 98 is still usable on my Wally II
PDQ and it literally flies on top of MacOS9. It opens pretty large
text documents without any hassle, running circles around my AluBook
G4 chocking on the same files within AbiWord/OpenOffice/AppleWorks/
iWork. I even managed to play DivX (.avi) files full screen without
any conversion (@266 mhz cpu and 128 mb of RAM!). My next project
would be playing lower- res YT (m.youtube.com) on slightly revamped
Wally (300 mhz cpu).

OS9 (or maybe 8.6) is a bliss when you want to make use of your older
Mac. You can transform it to a internet radio player/MP3 jukebox/ MAME
and other emulation machine/ recording studio, almost endless
possibilities. The only funny thing about running these old apps is
that many times you'll find yourself stuck in the Twilight Zone (or
post apocalyptic movie) opening dead links, trying to play silent
radio stations and dealing with now non existent companies whose
programs still demand your money for registration :) Not to mention
some abandoned gimmicks (Swatch Internet Time anyone?).
