Hi all-
I'm narrowing down the upgrades to this 400mhz model. Next on my
list, (once I've replaced the Wifi card w/ the Motorola and then
possibly replaced the RAM to compatible 256 Mb SODIMM), is to figure
out why the DVD does not playback.

I see some articles re: Lombard, it says the DVD is not supported by
OSX and rather, should be launched in classic OS However, in other
articles, I see statements that the 400mhz model is supported; right
now the Lombard has 10.4.11.

I pop a disc in, it whirs, opens an icon on desktop.

Currently, if I drag the video folder into the only program I seem to
have, which is VLC, it pops up a playback screen, resizes it a couple
times and then only plays audio. Black playback screen.

I haven't seen great info online about VLC w/ Macs. I could use some
advice here:

-I'm willing to replace the DVD drive but should I try something else
first?
-Anyone have opinions on VLC or a better player suggestion?
-If replacing the DVD drive seems the best option; any good model
suggestions
-And if replaced, can I assume that it will be supported by OSX and
not need to also run 10.9?

Thank you for your help and patience. I can't believe the info on LEM
-- it's really illuminating.
Jessica
