I'm also wondering if it might be a codec problem.  One of the best ways to
make sure you have all the pertinent codes is to have two files installed.
 VLC for example relies on these to make sure it can display all formats:

Perian  http://perian.org/   and
Flip4Mac  http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm
