Unfortunately, I can't supply the one for Jobs I had in mind- it was during a WWDC keynote and he said something along the lines of knowing their support was what it should be and that they would be workign to improve it. I just don't feel like wading through keynote transcripts- if you don't believe me you don't believe me. Lol, there used to even be a semi-cheesy "tell steve jobs" link on apple's site because of their new-found commitment to applecare (this was around the time the phone charges were instituted I believe, in 2000?) As for wozniak, I won't post personal messages that someone has sent me- it's tacky. Private correspondance is private correspondance. :) I would be happy to supply you with links to public ones though. I'm running short of time, but these should be enough. My personal favorite, in response to a message such as yours: <http://lists.themacintoshguy.com/Lists/Titanium/Message/18121.html> In regards to his friends computer that apple wouldn't fix until they heard he got it from woz: <http://lists.themacintoshguy.com/Lists/Titanium/Message/16177.html> Regarding ABS failures: <http://lists.themacintoshguy.com/Lists/Titanium/Message/18986.html> <http://lists.themacintoshguy.com/Lists/Titanium/Message/19083.html> Hmm... You seem to like shawn king, and respect his opinion. Now, in this message he states that apple has at times had horrible Q&A in the past four years. Surely he doesn't have enough experience to speak also? <http://lists.themacintoshguy.com/Lists/Titanium/Message/18191.html> This one is just plain apple bashing, but funny. Wozniak essentially saying apple was being fraudulent is priceless. <http://lists.themacintoshguy.com/Lists/Titanium/Message/21887.html> <http://lists.themacintoshguy.com/Lists/Titanium/Message/18987.html> >> The point isn't that apple computers cost more money, or their pricing, or >> what dell or compaq cost. The point is that apple has known problems with >> machines that fail- and then charges an arm and a leg to get them fixed. >> That is the "gotcha" pricing. It didn't use to be that way. > > Actually, Apple has a pretty good history of fixing "known problems" > without charging anything. There's a whole series of REA programs for 5x00/ > 6x00/7x00 machines for various problems, the entire PowerBook 5300 fiasco, > the Airport Base Station reset issue, and others that they have handled > for me and my customers without a problem. Lol. *sigh* No, apple has a history of having to go back and institute REA's for things that have gotten so bad that they are trying to alleviate bad press. Hinges are a known problem- you said earlier that 99% of the time they shouldn't fail except through abuse, yet yours failed (happy you got yours fixed) and so many others have failed- even a popular mac website had to post about the issue until it got resolved, same with a mac website owner who was having problems with his new 1ghz g4. Sure, apple will replace wall street hinges now- but only after it got so bad. You know the poster who posted about the Pismo he bought developing a pink LCD, and apple reccomending replacement? It is an extremely well known issue, a defect in the backlight. Is apple doing a good job of taking care of those people? Is apple taking care of them? Thousands of Pismo's screens are dying due to this defect. Just a small sampling. <http://www.macintouch.com/pinkpismolcd.html> Again, just because =you= didn't have a problem, doesn't mean others didn't. Apple had no problems replacing your airport? Awesome. Not everyone has that experience. I found this linked between woz and jesse williams (nine wire, they do a bunch of mac email lists) about apple giving him the runaround on airports. <http://lists.themacintoshguy.com/Lists/Titanium/Message/18929.html> <http://lists.themacintoshguy.com/Lists/Titanium/Message/18916.html> > The hinges on my TiBook just about 2 months ago, outside the original > warranty, and covered by AppleCare. I wasn't charged a dime, I didn't even > have to argue with them about it. I can't speak for others, obviously, but > the reports on MacFixIt trend (severely) towards Apple not charging for > this if you're under some sort of warranty (either 1y limited, or 3y ACPP) > . Try the macintouch boards- there are numerous reports. Same for the tibook mailing list. The rest of your message is essentially responses to things that weren't said, or just not getting the point, so there's no point to respond. :) Peace, Michael Bryan Bell ------------------ ICQ: 16106263 Yahoo: mhbell1 No Link for you!
