8.0 was =not= that big of an upgrade... Multithreading improvements and open
transport improvements are the biggest thing I can remember, plus some cut
down themes. It can't be compared to the jump from win3.1 to 95.

Wow. Quite usable. Wonder if apple will put that one in their next ad
campaign. :)

Don't get me wrong- you're right- OSX is quite usable. But it's not optimal,
and can be downright frustrating... even on the machines it is shipping with
right now, let alone a 500mhz ibook.

They weren't going to originally- it was only after the big fit by users
that they started offering it in stores for free.

MS's licensing policies are getting insane, and it's showing- their upgrade
figures are very disappointing because of it. Across the board, especially
in corporate circles.

What apple's tactic will do is trade long term platform adoption for short
term cash- not necessarily a bad thing, but there are trade offs in
everything.
