I would suggest that something else is causing this. My pismo fan has NEVER turned on that I know of. Neither has the Lombard before it, or the Wallstreet before that. The fans only turn on under extreme conditions. Some other problem is causing your 'book to overheat. Do you have a G4 upgrade in your Pismo?
He said that the fan used to run, and now it doesn't come on at all and his Powerbook started to overheat. Not to mention the fact that G4 upgrades tend to keep the fan running more, rather than disable it.
My first question to scotto is this: Is the Pismo still under an extended warranty of some kind? If so, have an Apple store/tech look at it and replace the fan. If not, I am sure one of us can scrounge up some info on how to replace the fan if you need it.
