Dan:

Wouldn't a device with a firewire connection be much faster? I know that Formac has/had a product. Not sure what else is available.

I'll suggest the USB Instant DVD for Mac from ADS Tech. The captured
files are directly burnable to a CD or DVD to be played back on consumer
DVD players _and_ the final DVD quality is excellent. File sizes are nice
and small, plus it includes a very usable DVD authoring program. I don't
know how using a USB PC card will work on the OP's WS, but if the card
can accept a 'normal' USB data connection I don't see why it wouldn't
work fine.

OWC has the cheapest price I've seen so far:

and here's some outside info:

A _very_ picky customer of mine had previously tried 5 different analog
-> digital (DV) solutions but this device blew them all away with much
cleaner capture quality and visibly better (than iDVD's mpeg codec) final
DVD quality as well. Only downside is that AFAIK you can't easily edit
mpeg streams. But since alot of his source nowadays is DV, he can edit
using FinalCut and then write the edited DV streams back to DV tape which
can then be fed back to disk through the Instant DVD device's analog
s-video input.

I recommend this for anyone with any analog video source wishing to turn
into them directly into DVDs.
