With the ibook I know I would need to upgrade memory. How important is the faster RAM, the extra video memory, the improved video card, and the bump in processor speed for working with iMovie and iDVD? The price difference is pretty dramatic-- like $500-600!
FWIW, I tend to amortize the price difference over the life of the machine. This is especially true with laptops as they can't be upgraded easily (or at all in some aspects).
Assume you can get 5 years out of the machine
$500 / 5 years / 12 months = $8/month for the extra. Or about $0.30/day.
In the end, I decided that it was worth it to me in the long run to get the extra performance of a Powerbook.
I think you're the only one who can answer the "is it worth it" question. I would believe that the overall speed of the Powerbook would be better for your tasks in the long run, but I can't say for sure.
