Yes! I'm glad you mentioned that as it was an important factor for me as well. Given that a laptop doesn't have any "expansion bays" I like having a PCMCIA slot as a little bit of "future proofing".
My current laptop was made before Firewire or Wireless Ethernet was well known, but because it has the PCMCIA slots, I was able to get a WIFI card and a FW card and add it to my computer.
You never know what next big thing is just around the corner and will require a port that you might not have on your machine. PCMCIA gives you a bit of upgrade power.
Good thing, too, otherwise I would have had no way to use my iPod for the last year ;-)
