I would certainly encourage you to download the XPostFacto application and launch it and look around at it a bit. If this makes you a little nervous, then quit the application and there is no harm done. It's just an application. Then, if you choose to, you can pay the registration fee which will give you the right to post to their discussion list. Ask questions there, if you're a little gunshy about taking the plunge.
Hello.
I'm new to this list and have just been reading and learning (I'd like to get a PowerBook one day).
But my two cents, here, would be simply to recommend XPostFacto. I have two drives in my old 7300 and I installed X (10.1.5) on one of them, using XPF. It was just a lark, really, since X runs like a lava lamp on my 180mz. But XPF is a really fine program and the author is very helpful. I just slavishly followed the instructions, which I printed out, and it all went perfectly.
The difficulties I had were of my own creation, because of eccentricities I'd built into my long-suffering computer. But in a standard configuration, all should go well. As I understand, support for WallStreet is relatively new but Ryan Rempel (the designer) spells out all the limitations.
I should add that I was able to install X onto a separate internal drive. If I had a PowerBook, say, and a means to back my HD up completely I would do so and reformat the drive with two partitions, the smaller for my original OX 9, and the much larger for X. And then I would give X its own, truncated OS 9 to use as Classic.
The advantage here is that it's easier to deal with X, if there's a problem, from the outside, as it were. And this gives you a dual-boot machine, which makes one feel much more secure. (There are other advantages but they emerge.)
By the way, the people on the XPF forum are very helpful.
Have fun.
