You might want to take a look a ProVUE's database program "Panorama." I have not used it under OS X, but the references below should give you a feel for its usefulness. FWIW I have used Panorama and its predecessor "OverVUE" since the early days of the Mac (1984).
Panorama, the most intuitive database program I've ever come across, works fine for me on OSX 3.5.
