i would guess, either the mac os is verifying the write on the built in
bus but not on the one on the sonnet card, or, are you using the bus
that normally connects to the dvd/cd drive? it's only ata-33. another
possibility would be if you have virtual memory on, if so it could be
using some of the bandwidth. what software are you using?
