The same thing happened to my girlfriend's iMac. (This was before she was my gf, thus I wasn't around to fix it. >The G3 will only start with the Norton SystemWorks CD. It will not start >with an OS CD. I did a search with "show missing disks" with Norton >Utilities and it does not show the Hard Drive. Any suggestions? I have >never seen a problem like this before! When she took the computer in to be repaired, this is what the tech said: "Norton found a virus on the disk, so now it won't let you start your computer, because then you'd spread the virus. The only solution is to totally reset the computer to factory defaults and totally erase everything on the hard drive." Sounds like utter B.S. to me. Either that tech had a mean streak, or just wanted to perform the easiest fix. It sounds to me like something in Norton has messed up the Mac's hardware, so that it doesn't know how to see hard disks. Is there a CUDA type switch on your G3, or could you remove the battery for a while to hopefully reset the hardware? -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
