After some extensive testing on my heavily upgraded Yosemite G3, it appears that the problem could be the Metabox G4/400 ZIF upgrade. I replaced the Metabox with an OWC G3/333 ZIF (out of the box, it shows up as G3/350 on the Yosemite) and the difference in reformatting the HD and installing OS 9.1 was very noticeable (faster, stabler). Obviously still some testing to do though.
Of all the potential problems, I was hoping it wouldn't be the Metabox ZIF, as it seems Metabox has gone out of (the Mac) business. I can't even connect to their US web site, though the German one is still up. No references to customer support, though. The ZIF is six months old and IIRC the original warranty was 1 year, if not 2. Purchased from Smalldog, so I don't have much hope on that front either. (i.e. I'm not a big Smalldog fan, as based on past experience with them). Anyone ever been in contact with Metabox? Anyone ever gotten a ZIF card replaced by them? Any warranty info much appreciated. IIRC, it was Kyle Hansen who praised the Metabox upgrades and said he'd installed several. Kyle, have you ever had one go bad? Did you get a replacement from Metabox? Or from the reseller? Thanks for all the suggestions re. the Yosemite.
