I think I jsut got a great deal on a Mac G-4 400mghz AGP Power PC. It has
the following - Hardrive version 3.2.6 Quantum Internal ATA 10.26GB,
DVD Rom Driver Version 1.4.3 Hitachi
Iomega Zip 100 Drive version 6.0.6f1
Ram 892MB
Firewire 2.7 and an ATY Rqge 128Pro, VRAM 16mb
Video Out Card ATI radeon DDR PCI 32MB
NTSC Mac ATI 430061
CD Rom/Drive
OS 9.1 which I have upgraded to 9.2
So many other software programs preloaded I can't mention
them all, like Photoshop Elements, Acrobat Reader 5.0, some sort of graphics
program I'm not famaliar with and many others that he included because they
were already ordered that way prior to the company going belly up.
It was built for one of the dot com companies here in Austin and they went
belly up, so the local Mac store that built these are selling them almost at
cost. I paid $1650 and that included the 19" clear monitor, the clear
keyboard and the clear laser mouse (I'm sure there is another name for
these, but I don't know all the MAC lingo yet). The owner of the store said
he had 3 more that he was trying to sell complete with monitor and the
keyboard/mouse.
My questions are: did I get a pretty good deal? I've been looking in the
Mac Mags and it seems like I did. Also, I would like to have a larger
hardrive and be able to have my kids be able to play some of the better
games. I also am learning graphics design and website design, and the Mac
was recommended as the best machine I could buy for that type of work. Do I
need a larger or faster Video card? If so, which one does anyone recommend?
I have been reading this list and evryone seems to rave about the MAXTOR
Diamond Max Plus 7200 60GB HD. I know nothing about these things, is it
really that good and would it make a difference in my machine as far as
speed? It's already the fastest machine I've ever owned. I clocked it on
roadrunner download test and the CNET tester and both came back with a
transfer speed of 1867 kbps, which looked to be pretty fast. Any comments
or help would be greatly appreciated! Ron in Austin
