Bryan: thanks much for the advice. I didn't realize there were so many "patches" for diablo. My kids seem to know more about these things than I. I'm a single dad trying to raise 3 girls, (2teens and 1 preteen). We have 2 imacs and my Mac G-4. I just ordered more memory for the G-4, another 512 mb chip from low end mac. That should max me out to the 1.5gb mem allowed on the G-4. I still think I can use the larger h.d. and that will help with not only all of the things they are doing, a lot of school projects that in my day were just dreams and today involve a push of the button on my mac. I have been told the 60 gb hd, while still 7200rpm, the same as mine, will give me a little more stability. Are they very difficult to install? Once I do that, I think I'm just going to sit back and learn all I can about this machine and enjoy working with it. If I might add a hint to all out there that wants to get more speed and stability, I went to the Motorola websight and there are files there, VbasicOps, VBigNum, VectorOps, VMathlib. I donwloaded them last night and I couldn't believe the improvement it has made. According to Motorola, these drivers will help to speed up and stabilize their Power PC chip, regardless of which one it is. The website is www.mot.com/SPS/PowerPC/library/fact_sheet/libmoto/_download.html It's a mouthful, but they have a lot of drivers and apps you can install to assist their chip functions. I swear, I can't believe the improvements it has made since I've installed these. According to them, these drivers cause the the chip to somehow speed up the math processing and highly optimizes memory for strings and mathlib functions for the Power Mac chips. It's worth looking into and they are free!!! Thanks again, to everyone who responded, you are all quality people and it's so nice to feel so welcome in the Mac family as you've made me feel. Sincerely, Ron in Austin
