IMHO a G3 B&W is a much more sound investment, although I wouldn't
turn my nose up at a cheap Beige G3, just depends on your market
place and cash quota. It will cost you as much (if not more if you
find a cheap G3 DT) to add a big HD, USB, FireWire and a G3 CPU
upgrade to a 7x00 series as it would to buy a G3 B&W, when you add it
to the value of the machine. I know - been there, done that. I just
gave up, sold my 7500 for what I could and bought a G3 B&W 400MHz. As
a case in point, the upgrades + base system of my 7500 cost 650 to
build up and it didn't run OS X, have FireWire or go very fast
(despite the G3/375 in it) and it only had a tiny, slow 512MB HD in
it. My B&W G3 is a 400MHz machine but seems like an 800MHz compared
to my old 7500, it has a stock 6GB hard disk (and a 10GB I added from
a PC), it has USB, FireWire, 10/100 LAN, a 16MB Graphics card, it
came with 128MB but takes standard PC100 or PC 133 RAM so it now has
576MB! All that (including the RAM) probably cost me about 600. You
see where I'm coming form?

YMMV
